California Community Colleges Curriculum

Minimum Qualifications

For California community college curriculum committees, understanding the disciplines list, officially known as the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in the California Community Colleges, is crucial to the function of assigning courses to disciplines. Each course, per Title 5 §53200, must be assigned to a discipline. The academic senate or curriculum committee assigns the course to one or more disciplines and records the decisions for future reference in hiring faculty to teach the course. Curriculum committees should be familiar with the disciplines list, its regular cycle for review every two years, and the local tracking mechanism to record the courses assigned to various disciplines.
